London Book Fair (#LBF15) kicks off tomorrow and we’re very excited here at The Curved House. Now in its 44th year, The London Book Fair is the book-publishing trade fair west of Frankfurt. If this is your first London Book Fair, the hallowed halls of LBF’s new home at London Olympia may seem like a daunting prospect. But fear not – we’ve got a short crash course to guide you through.
Who goes, who talks, what happens?
At LBF, visitors include anyone who is involved with the creation, distribution, sale or treatment of content. Authors, talent scouts, editors, designers and digital gurus all walk the floor, meeting, talking, observing, discovering. The fair welcomes over 25,000 professional visitors from more than 100 countries.
But, authors, you won’t be alone. From the giant houses to the smallest independent, there are publishers of blockbuster novels and academic texts, producers of children’s books and graphic novels, mobile companies and gaming start-ups. Over 1,000 overseas companies are represented from 50 countries, and 25 international pavilions.
The organisers at The London Book Fair have provided guests with lots of ways to plan ahead this year. To keep track of exhibitors, talks and conferences you can add events to your fair calendar, which is available when you set up a profile and log in. You can also star events of interest. So, plan ahead and don’t forget to wear your most comfortable shoes for all that running around!
Not only is the fair a chance to mingle with the stars of the publishing world, it’s also a place to seek advice, to learn and listen. There are a series of events and conferences on, in which keynote speakers speak about various industry trends and topics.
