It has now been one week since we launched Visual Verse at The Writing Platform event at Rich Mix. The response has been overwhelming and, for me, quite emotional. I never anticipated how moved I would feel by seeing the range of responses from writers. The quality of writing and the level of engagement has been truly amazing. Thank you writers, you’ve made my year!
And while Visual Verse is an online anthology, with a digital heart, we proved at the launch that it transitions beautifully to a physical space. A large format print of the inaugural image (Marc Schlossman’s beautiful tortoise shell) was on display and postcards were available for writers to pen a instinctive response to the image. At the end of the day we gathered up the submissions and our Visual Verse editor, Preti Taneja, proceeded with the difficult task of awarding a winner. Even with such a short space of time to prepare a piece of writing, the quality was extremely high. The winner, Aki Schilz, stood out with her beautiful, carefully crafted verse. Congratulations Aki, well deserved.

So we launched with fervor at Rich Mix and can’t wait to see how the writing and art on Visual Verse evolves over the coming months and years. We will change the image fortnightly or monthly, depending on the number of submissions, so keep an eye on the site for new work.
